Michael Clayton

Wow! Michael Clayton is a thriller that shows the collusion of our legal system and bad business. George Clooney plays the title character, a man who "fixes" ugly situations for his law firm's powerful, affluent clients. He's messed up himself accruing debt from a failed business venture. For years his firm has been trying to help a corporate polluter escape liability for the disease it's caused. Michael's colleague, played by Tom Wilkinson, has an epiphany and starts to take the other side. In a deposition, he loses it, declares his love for one of the plaintiffs and disrobes. Soon the firm sends it's covert henchmen to get Tom's character.

It's an exciting thriller that explores the effects of corporate greed, sort of muck racking for our time. It would make a good film for a class to view and discuss, especially a law school class.
